What a great track! Downloaded it and upon first listen knew that I loved it. Hard to go wrong when covering such a great song by Townes Van Zandt.
This song was so well done, that it got me to seek out and listen to Townes Van Zandt, and though I was familiar with the name I had not listened to his music before.
Needless to say, I've become an instant fan of Townes' music and I have the Lemonheads to thank for this.
Not bad . . . June 23, 2009 Dan Clanton 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This isn't a bad cover of the Townes song. The original is better, but if this song gets people to investigate the original, then it's job is done.
No bad... January 13, 2010 Roger D. Osburn (Stillwater, OK, US) This is a classic Townes Van Zandt song. Townes was one of the, if not THE, best songwriters ever. That said, the Lemonheads do a pretty good job with this song and if it turns a few more people onto the late, great Townes Van Zandt, that's all that really matters.
Not a Bad Tune January 30, 2010 Veil_Lord (San Jose, CA) I was listening to the song at work and got distracted about half way through. I didn't realize I hadn't finished the song until later in the day and didn't have any desire to finish it. There's nothing really wrong with the song, I just didn't find anything in the lyrics or the melody that kept my attention.
However, I came back later and started listening to it again and it really grows on you. I had it as a repeat in my play list for a couple weeks after that. I guess you just need to be in the right mood or listen to it enough that it grows on you, but it's a pleasant song.
Fine, I suppose June 23, 2009 Z. Moore (Washington, DC USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It is a perfectly fine cover that brings nothing new to the song. To be fair, I haven't heard anything by the lemonheads since the 90's - and I only downloaded this to see if it was in fact a cover of the the song I rather like. In the end, though it is fair, I don't know why you'd listen to this version over Townes Van Zandt's original.
