| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description This is a story about love, passion and devotion. It is a story filled with laughs, tears, hard work and a dedication that fills the soul. This honest and remarkably detailed story will bring home a lot of memories to anyone who has ever been involved with an extra curricular competitive group (whether it is the Boy Scouts, a sports team, the military, or Drum and Bugle Corps) that facilitates a rite of passage from adolescence to adulthood. Jeremy "Spike" Van Wert spent three years in the SCV drum line from 96-98. His striking journey and personal growth are an inspiration to the reader and a never before seen inside view of Drum and Bugle Corps.

Any student of music will definitely want to add "Not for the Faint of Heart" to their collection. Spike takes you on a very personal, realistic, and memorable adventure through his exciting seasons in DCI. If you are considering joining a corps, or have previously marched, you will especially enjoy reading this book.

SCV Book Great Book November 5, 2009 Eugene M. Hopper 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book tells it like it is in a top Drum and Bugle Corps. Everyone that has marched or is marching should read. Great job on this book.
Well crafted story of the boy who became a man... March 6, 2008 Gregory M. Kuzma (Boca Raton, FL, USA) This is a no holds barred story about a young man who grows up when he joins the famous Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps. He shares his experience with amazing detail. You'll feel like you're right there with him, living in the moment.
Who should read this book? It's a "must-have" for anyone ever associated with the Vanguard or who want to be. For anyone else, it's a wonderful story of growing up and enduring some great positive "life lessons."
It's a fantastic tribute to one of the greatest drum and bugle corps to ever take the competitive marching arena. I recommend it without reservation.
